IDC (International Data Corporation), the global provider of market intelligence has produced a case study of the unique smart metering deployment currently ongoing in Oslo.
Norway’s largest DSO, Hafslund Nett is currently deploying a smart metering infrastructure from Aidon, including head-end systems and devices (Aidon Energy Service Devices) with an automated multihop mesh network designed by Wirepas. Full-scale rollout of power meters started in August 2016 and will be completed by the end of 2018. The company has about 700,000 connected customers.
The case study describes Hafslund Nett’s AMI project from the beginning – including planning, selecting suitable solutions, suppliers and partners – to the rollout of smart meters. The choice of communication infrastructure was decisive in terms of cost as well as reliability and performance. The principle of smart grid is that it is based on real time information, and with the advanced AMI and its innovative connectivity solution Hafslund Nett will get on-line access and visibility into their whole low-voltage grid.
