ESE-Verkko takes Open Remote Reading System in use

The Mikkeli-based ESE-Verkko in Finland has taken in use a remote reading system based on open architecture. The system proved its functionality during the pilot project and was approved for expansion into production use.

These next-generation energy meters are supplied by Onninen/Actaris, responsible for the remote reading software, and Aidon. The system will expand to 12,000 energy meters by the end of the year, with 4,000 already installed. Empower is responsible for delivery project management, meter installation, reading and data communications.

“Our initial requirement was a system based on the equipment of two different manufacturers, which is rather new in this field. During the project, cooperation between the different parties has worked well, and the solution is technically functional. The ease of installation of the meters and the reliability of the data communications meet our goals”, says Jussi Malkamäki, Managing Director of ESE-Verkko.

ESE-Verkko wants to offer its customers comprehensive and up-to-date information on their electricity usage. The intelligence and open, modular structure of the next-generation energy meters were deemed to best support this goal.

“Systems with multiple meter suppliers have been proven to work, which has already changed the procurement methods of Energy companies. ESE-Verkko’s decision to adhere to a system based on two meter manufacturers is an excellent example of this”, says Petteri Heinänen, Marketing Director, Aidon.
