Oulun Seudun Sähkö implements PiHa in the entire network – Information on electrical faults immediately to the company and the customer.
From this year on, Oulun Seudun Sähkö will be immediately informed on interruptions in electricity distribution for the customer. During this year, the company will connect all its electricity metering points into the network management information system using the remote readable meters’ PiHa functionality.
PiHa means low-voltage network fault management, which reaches even the internal network of the electricity using estate. Thanks to PiHa, the interruption will show up on the control monitor map and the information is automatically conveyed to the Oulun Seudun Sähkö web site, if needed.
Two years ago, the company made the decision to switch entirely to new-generation remote reading system. The installations of Aidon’s energy service devices were completed just before Christmas, and approximately 98 % out of the total of 28,000 metering points are now covered by hourly reading.
Next, the remote reading system will be connected to the electricity network user support system, which means that precise information on faults will be received immediately. This is enabled by the PiHa functionality of the energy service devices, which have been installed for the customers. The PiHa functionality will be implemented through the metering devices’ remote upgrade.
– Faults will be repaired faster and customer service will improve, as the quality and the exact location of the fault will become known immediately, Yrjö Vilhunen, Managing Director at Oulun Seudun Sähkö Verkkopalvelut Oy, sums up.
– Low-voltage network fault information is valuable especially when organising the repairs of storm damages. For the customer, the fault information will be delivered automatically, first on our web site, and later directly as an SMS message to the customer’s mobile phone. By the summer, all our customers will be included in the system, after which we will further develop the communication towards the customers.
In addition to power outages, the energy service device conveys information, for instance, on excessive power intake and blown fuses in the metering point. Moreover, dangerous neutral wire faults and phase wire breakages will be perceived immediately.
Oulun Seudun Sähkö Verkkopalvelut is the first electricity network company to implement PiHa functionalities in the entire electricity connection network. The company’s operating area covers Kempele, Oulunsalo, Liminka, Lumijoki, Tyrnävä, Muhos and Utajärvi, and the centre of Vaala.
