Thoughts and experiences about inspiration, technology, energy – anything that contributes to a smarter and greener future!

Energy efficiency and the reduction of energy demand are central means for a more sustainable future. Internet-connected devices for monitoring and controlling the electric grid, and the smart grid that they form, are technologies that help reduce the need for energy and balance the demand peaks. However, it isn’t self-evident that the new innovations labelled as green are actually green. Electric vehicles can pollute more than their combustion engine counterparts if they are charged with electricity produced with fossil fuels, and the positive impacts that smart electricity meters have on our consumer habits can be cancelled out if the advanced metering system and its devices themselves consume a lot of resources during their manufacturing and use.

Environmental aspects of the devices and services that we use are best seen to when we look at the products’ whole life cycle from raw material extraction all the way to recycling or disposal. By using life cycle assessment and design for environment methods systematically, we can minimize the negative environmental impacts and maximize the positive ones and make the future as green as possible. As stated in our sustainability policy, Aidon is strongly committed to this.

Availability and smart utilization of data are very actual topics also in the energy industry, and their importance for the power grid management is growing all the time. The Advanced Metering Infrastructure provides an excellent platform to prepare for the “Internet of Energy”. Refining of data can create significant added value for the infra investment. At the same time, this sets even higher requirements for the AMM system’s reliability. Aidon, as a technology company, is committed to continuing as an active enabler of smarter networks.
